Press release from the Branson Arts Council

Break Out Your Hairspray And Take Your 80′s Fashion To The Max

The Branson Arts Council is giving you a chance to relive the 80′s. The 80′s were a great time; the creation of MTV revolutionized the fashion and music industry, so, we are celebrating the 80′s with a “Retro” 80′s Dance Party.

Front man, Bucky Heard, from Legends in Concert, along with a fantastic group of Branson’s best entertainers featuring; John Sousan, Kenny Christiansen, Dino Phillips, and Scott Lancaster are the band “Retro”! They will be performing for the Branson Arts Councils, “RETRO 80′s Dance Party”, at Club 57 located downstairs from Dick Clark’s American Bandstand Theatre on Friday, September 3rd, 2010 starting at 10:30pm.

Fans from the 80′s can rock out to their favorite bands like AC/DC, Styx, Aerosmith, The Police, Rick Springfield, Journey, Foreigner, and many more hits of the 80′s.  There is a $3.00 cover charge at the door to get into the event, which will benefit the Arts Council’s children’s programs “Hands On Clay,” and “Children’s Youth Symphony.”  Club 57 is also donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to the Branson Arts Council.

The Hands on Clay class offers children with free instruction utilizing local artists as instructors.  The classes are for children ages 7-12 and ages 12-16.  This is a very popular summer activity held on four Saturday mornings in June/July.  There is also an “Open House” at the conclusion of the program that features all of the pottery made by the students during this activity.

The Educational Youth Symphony is a partnership with the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theatre, the Springfield Symphony and the BAC.  The Symphony provides an educational concert for youth in Branson.  Approximately 50 symphony members brought life to the symphony for over 700 children in the Branson area.  It is educational as well as very entertaining.

There will be prizes for the highest hair, best 80′s attire, and door prizes all night long from Adventure Zipline, Hollywood Wax Museum, IMAX Entertainment Complex, Hamner Barber Theater, Montana Mikes, Florentinas Italian Restorante and many more.

Fur sure, cowabunga baby, cause this party is gonna be aces!  So don’t be an airhead and miss this bangin 80′s Retro Party and support The Branson Arts Council.

The Branson Arts Council provides competent, creative arts leadership to our community stressing listening and active response to needs in the arts identified by the community.  “To make available artistic, cultural, and educational opportunities, and to support, strengthen and enhance these opportunities for all citizens of our community.”

The Vagabond Playhouse – the professional theatre venue of the Vagabond Stage Company – is celebrating its grand opening with a full weekend of Area Appreciation performances. The Vagabond Playhouse is Branson’s first professional regional style theatre, producing a season of plays, original works, and other professional theatre. The inaugural show is The Complete Works of William Shakespeare ABRIDGED by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, and will play on Fridays at 8:00PM, Saturdays at 8:00PM, and Sundays at 3:00PM and 8:00PM, beginning August 20th, 2010 and running through the end of October, 2010.

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare ABRIDGED is a bold, irreverent romp through every comedy, history, and tragedy written by William Shakespeare. The show is performed by only three actors- area professionals Michael J. Diprizio, Larry Foster, and Cory Paul Pichoff - who play all of the parodied characters and offer up a farcical feast of inspired lunacy. The Los Angeles Times says “Wildly funny. Masterful!” The Montreal Gazette boasts “One of the funniest shows you are likely to see in your lifetime.” And The Today Show says “If you like Shakespeare, you’ll like this show. If you hate Shakespeare, you’ll love this show!”

The weekend of August 20th, 21st, and 22nd is Area Appreciation, and shows are offered at the discounted rate of only $10 for adult and $5 for children/teenage (ages 3-15) residents of Branson and the surrounding counties in Missouri and Arkansas: including Stone, Taney, Marion, Baxter, Barry, Greene, Christian, Lawrence, Polk, Webster, Carroll and Boone. ID required: Please be prepared to show a Drivers License, pay stub, etc. when purchasing or picking up your tickets at the box office.

The Vagabond Playhouse is located in The Majestic Building at 2849 Gretna Rd, Branson, MO 65616. The box office number is 417-297-0392. Complete information on the Vagabond Stage Company, The Vagabond Playhouse, and current productions can be found at www.vagabondstagecompany.com.
